Regenerative Medicine

Repair Tissue, Manage Pain, Regain Function

Regenerative medicine is a type of medicine that uses the body’s own cells to heal damaged or painful tissues without medications or surgery. Regenerative medicine can be used to treat a range of conditions and diseases, including chronic pain. Regenerative therapies can help patients find relief from pain and boost healing using dextrose, platelets, or plasma from the body.

The goal of regenerative medicine is to restore both the structure and function of damaged tissue by helping support the body’s natural healing abilities. While traditional medical techniques such as pain prescriptions and over-the-counter medications focus on managing chronic pain.

Regenerative therapies are considered safe and effective for treating chronic pain in several joint areas including the hip, knee, ankle, wrist, elbow, and shoulder. These unique treatments are completed at Bare Integrated Medicine in an outpatient setting allowing patients to return to some level of function the same day.

4 Benefits of Regenerative Medicine

Regenerative therapy is growing in popularity due to its ability to restore functionality in previously damaged tissues without pharmaceutical or surgical interventions. Regenerative medicine patients at Bare Integrative Medicine have experienced these great benefits:

  1. Enhanced healing and faster recovery – Regenerative therapies such as prolotherapy or platelet-rich plasma deliver growth factors directly to the affected areas. With targeted treatments, the body naturally spurs tissue growth in the problematic areas helping to speed recovery.
  2. Reduced pain – Regenerative medicine focuses on treating the root cause of ongoing pain instead of managing the symptoms. The targeted treatments and faster recovery allow the body to heal and reduce pain for most patients. Some patients even seen a reduction or elimination of chronic pain.
  3. Increased movement and function – Regenerative medicine spurs the body’s natural production of collagen. The body uses collagen to strengthen tissues and tendons around joints which allows for an increased range of motion and ability to move freely during everyday tasks.
  4. Decreased risk of future injury – Strong tissues and tendons help to stabilize joints and reduce the risk for future injury.

Reasons People Seek Regenerative Medicine

Regenerative medicine is becoming increasingly recommended in the management of many orthopedic issues. Many injuries and degenerative conditions that were previously treated by Steroid injections or surgery now show significant improvement with regenerative medicine. Common injuries to the hips, knees, shoulders, and more can now delay or completely avoid surgery by using regenerative therapies. In addition, regenerative therapies paired with necessary surgeries can help enhance healing and reduce recovery times. Patients look to regenerative medicine therapies when they are experiencing or seeking care for:

  • Orthopedic issues – degenerative issues or injury to joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles or bones.
  • Musculoskeletal pain – pain that affects the muscles, ligaments, tendons, or bones.
  • Wound and incision healing – accelerating and supporting the body’s natural healing for wounds or surgical incisions.
  • Skin related therapies – combating the signs of aging

Regenerative therapies are ideal for patients with ACL/MCL/Meniscal tears, osteoarthritis, tendonitis, muscle sprain/strain/tear or back and neck injuries. There are several regenerative therapy options available at Bare Integrative Medicine. An appropriate therapy and course of treatment will be prescribed by our doctor and requires an evaluation prior to administration.

regenerative therapies we offer at Bare Integrative Medicine-

Prolotherapy with Ultrasound –  Prolotherapy is a regenerative medicine technique that injects a dextrose solution into the injured or affected joint to treat pain, inflammation and increase range of motion. Dextrose has been shown in research to increase cellular growth and stimulate the body’s natural wound healing response.

During a prolotherapy treatment, the dextrose solution stimulates the body to build new tissue in the weakened joint, muscle, ligament, or tendon. New tissue development helps to strengthen ligaments and tendons providing the effected joint stability. Added stability increases joint strength and reduces pain.

During a prolotherapy treatment, Dr. Detorres utilizes ultrasound to review the affected area and identify the ideal injection placement. Ultrasound helps to increase the accuracy of the injection for optimal patient benefit.

Many patients see significant improvement after a single visit; however, the full course of treatment includes three injections spaced one month apart.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Injections with Ultrasound – Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) injections are a regenerative medicine technique where a solution made from your own platelets and plasma is injected directly into the affected tissue, muscle, or ligament. Platelets are your body’s first response to an injury. Helping to heal tissue and providing necessary proteins for tissue repair.

At Bare Integrative Medicine we begin our PRP injections by drawing a sample of your own blood and spinning it in a centrifuge to separate the platelets from the other blood cells. Once your PRP injection is prepared, Dr. Detorres utilizes ultrasound to review the affected area and identify the ideal injection placement. Utilizing ultrasound helps to guide the injection placement and increases the accuracy of the injection for optimal benefit.

Many patients see improvement in the treated joint within days to weeks. Talk with our care team about adding stem cell exosome therapy to your PRP treatment for added benefit.

Anti-Aging Procedures – Regenerative therapies combined with laboratory testing and hormone balancing can help combat the signs of aging. PRP injections, when used for facial rejuvenation, can make the skin more smooth and toned while reducing the signs of blemishes or scars. Consult with Dr. Detorres on how regenerative medicine therapies can enhance your skincare routine.

Regenerative Medicine Side Effects

Patients typically experience very few side effects with either prolotherapy or PRP injections. Some patients experience minor pain and swelling in the treated area for a few days after the treatment. This typically passes quickly and patients can resume normal activity within a few days or less after their treatment. Exercise should be avoided for 2 weeks to allow for maximum healing.

Finding Regenerative Medicine Therapies Near You

Because regenerative medicine therapies, including prolotherapy and PRP injections, encourage your body to heal itself, many patients have seen great benefits. Prolotherapy and PRP injections can be paired with other treatments to help optimize your journey to better health.

Regenerative medicine therapies at Bare Integrative Medicine are prescribed and administered by Dr. Detorres and require an evaluation to identify the most effective therapy.
